Equipment and facilities available in the Department
The department is well equipped with basic biochemistry and molecular biology equipment which are available to all staff as shared facilities. Examples are: amino acid analyzer, UV-visible and fluorescence spectrophotometers, general centrifugation equipment including ultracentrifuges, chromatographic systems including HPLC, FPLC, capillary electrophoresis, liquid scintillation counter, phosphorimager, bright-field, dark-field and fluorescence microscopes, inverted microscopes.
Other major research equipment available include confocal microscope, fluorescence-activated cell sorter, peptide synthesizer, automatic DNA sequencer, (cryo) microtome and mass spectrometer MALDI-TOF. The Department is also fully equipped for all aspects of transgenic and gene knockout research and for cell culture work. Collaboration with other departments allows us access to special equipment such as NMR, higher throughput DNA sequencing and electron microscopes.
